Mt Liumchen // A Poetic Take on a Bad Hike

In lieu of a typical blog post, I was feeling that a poem would be more appropriate for this tale.

Three lads set forth to Liumchen

in order to test their gumption.

Plan B it was

And that's because

Welch Peak was shroud in clouds

In fact they'd drove

up Foley Creek road,

but they'd turned around

and headed down,

For Welch they could not see

Thus, their sights were set

On the lesser summit.

They hiked the ridge,

disappointed a smidge

(Tho none said so aloud).

Bear scat they found

all over the ground.

At least five blue-ish piles...

looked like they'd been there a while,

for fresh they did not appear

They rambled along

while the birds were in song,

fought back the attack

of each branch that would whack

their arms, heads, faces, and legs

Liumchen appeared

but as everyone feared...

their path was blocked

by a cliff of ominous rock

perhaps they'd met their match

But...

After some exploration

They scrambled past the formation

and at last they did stand

on a summit surprisingly grand

Finally, on top of Liumchen

The US border did lie

A hop skip and jump yonder by

So they trod once again

Onward, with a grin

To The United States of America

Backtracking they went

A bushwhacking lament

Back to the car

Which turns out was quite far

Oh well, that's a hike I guess

All in all, I'll say this

I was somewhat remiss

For I coerced my two friends

To bushwhack to no end...

And I think they were quite disappointed.

One day I'll redeem

This bad hike with my team

Perhaps up Welch Peak

But maybe not during mid-week

So the lads don't take off work for nothing.

The End.
